WEST COUNTRY SAILING CLUB LINKS WITH RALPHH IN RENEWING EMPHASIS ON SAFEGUARDING

Babbington Corinthians Sailing Club has become the fourth sailing club in England to partner with RALPHH is having defibrillation equipment prominently available in its club, overlooking Oddicombe Beach, near Torquay.

Established in 1935, the Club now has 340 members, who include 120 who are active in either sailing, kayaking or swimming, all with an emphasis on the social side of sport. Those sailing take advantage of a fleet of 24 dinghies, which are provided on a sessional basis. Twelve new junior members are recruited each year, who complete a one-week training programme known as “On Board”.

The catchment for members is the Torbay and Teignmouth areas, whilst some members who began their passion for the sport at Babbacombe have gone forward to compete at national level.

RALPHH has been keen to develop more links with sailing clubs, since its first initiative in the sport with Middle Nene Sailing Club, Northants in March 2023. The charity has its origins in rowing, but has extended to other water sports as well as other exerting sports, such as hockey.

The charity was able to gift the defibrillator to Babbington Corithian Sailing Club and has other similar equipment which it can make available without cost to the recipients.
