RALPHH PARTNERS WITH MIDLANDS CLUB THAT HAS BIG AMBITIONS

“Our aim is to be the first-choice hockey team in the Birmingham area,” said Bournville and Kings Heath Hockey Captain Connor Lennon.

He was speaking at the presentation of a defibrillator to the club by the RALPHH charity, extending its considerable support work in the sport of hockey. 

The existing club came from a merger in 2023, but both parts have their origin in 1906. There are currently six mien’s teams, five ladies and a vibrant youth set-up, making the total membership approaching 1,000. Home games are played either at King Edward’s Boys School in Selly Oak or at the nearby King Edward’s Camphill site. The men’s first eleven play in the Midlands First Division. A key part of this club’s progress is a strong emphasis on recruiting young people and team players, going into schools to introduce hockey and stress the inclusivity of both the sport and the ethos of the Club. This is being further reinforced in the months ahead by partnering with England Hockey to further spread the news.

The gift of a defibrillator from RALPHH reflects the recognition of hockey as a fast and hugely competitive sport. It was an approach by Youth Lead at Bournville and Kings Heath, Roger Hemming, that lead to the latest RALPHH partnership. In the coming weeks, the Club intends to install the defibrillator in an external, heated box at the King Edward's School ground.
