RALPHH has made its first defibrillator gift on Merseyside to a rowing club.

Based at the Liverpool Watersports Centre, the Mersey Rowing Club has 80 members and has recently gown in numbers, attributed to Britain’s most recent Olympic successes.

Responsible for the six-week long Learn to Row programme aimed at 14-18-year-olds is Sam Korver (left), who originally came to Liverpool from Australia. She accepted the welcome defibrillator from Richard Alle, Chairman of the national charity that has been in existence since 2019. The Mesey club also shares with boathouse with the local dragon boat club, whilst sports such as kayaking, rafted canoeing, paddle boarding and sailing are hosted in other parts of the Watersports Centre.

Mersey Rowing Club participates in regional events such as those held at Runcorn and Warrington. A women’s double represented the Club at Henley this year and there will also be representation in the quads sector of the London Head, taking place later in the winter.

“We are so pleased to link with Mersey Rowing Club and to extend the reach of RALPHH into this important part of the country,” said Richard Allen. “Of course, we all hope that the defibrillator will never need to be used, but if it is called upon these machines are proven to help save lives, and this must be reassuring to all club members. We would like to help other amateur sports clubs in and around the City of Liverpool, and hope that this new development will encourage others to make contact.”
