A Lancashire rowing club that is experiencing a significant growth in its membership successfully applied to RALPHH to gain its first defibrillator.
Lancaster John O’Gaunt Rowing Club sits on the bank of the River Lune, just outside the famous old city. It currently has 100 members, who include 20 Juniors and a significant Masters section. A recent upsurge in local interest has seen additional membership enquiries, with a small Ergo-stocked gym area proving popular many nights of the week.
The Club also includes among its offering a refugee programme which is aimed at those uncertain of whereabouts their future might be.
Participating in several rowing competitions across the North West, the Club hosts its own Head of the River each November and sent a Masters Crew to the British Rowing Championship earlier this year.
The practice sessions take place just before the River Lune becomes tidal and run the two a half kilometre to Halton. This involves singles, doubles, quads and eights.

Receiving the valuable defibrillator given by the charity was Vice-Captain Martin Casson Grave from Richard Allen, Chairman of the Robert Allen Life Promotion and Healthy Hearts Trust (RALPHH). This represents the 72nd defibrillator presented to sporting clubs since 2019, with rowing being the most prominent category.
